Rachel Reiss, CSA, is a Senior Casting Director at Liz Lewis Casting Partners, casting across Film, Television, Commercials, Podcasts, Animation, and Voiceover nationwide.

Her recent credits include Get Rolling with Otis for Apple TV, SuperKitties for Disney Jr., and films including A Year and Change, All Wifed Out, Lady-Like, The Painter, and Queen of Knives. Rachel has also cast hundreds of award-recognized commercials and voiceovers, as well as podcasts including This Job Is History and I Hear Fear with Wondery and Killer Questions with Investigation Discovery.

Rachel is a two-time Heller Award recipient for Best Northeast Commercial and VO Casting and received the 2023 Artios Award for Best Casting of a Short Film for The F Word, starring Chris Gethard. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Casting Society of America as VP of Technology.

Workshop Format: This workshop is unique in the sense that you are free to choose the type of material you would like to work on, whether that’s a Film/TV scene, commercial copy, or a VO piece. If you prefer, CAS can also provide Film/TV sides and commercial copy for you to work with.

Joanna Davis has been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years. She began her career as a casting intern while still in high school and went on to gain experience at production companies, a talent agency, and on documentaries. We're thrilled to welcome back CD Kymberli McKanna a dynamic and versatile casting director whose industry experience spans nearly 15 years across New York and Los Angeles. With a rich and diverse background in both TV and theatre, Kymberli brings a well-rounded, insightful perspective to the casting process, and now, to your next workshop!

Kymberli has worked on hit series like 9-1-1 (ABC, formerly FOX) and American Horror Stories(FX), and her credits also include Very Valentine (Lifetime MOW), Triangle (ABC Pilot), numerous commercials, and theatrical projects. She also spent time as an Audition Production Assistant for major Broadway and National Tour productions such as Hamilton, Wicked, Waitress, and several live NBC/FOX musicals. She is currently back full time on 9-1-1!

This workshop will feature live reads with feedback and re-directs from Kymberli. Participants will select from a curated folder of scenes sent by Kymberli. The material chosen will allow each actor to dig deep, showcase their strengths, and truly sink their teeth into the work.

‘Language Warning’ This scene gets funnier the older you get! 😂The “F” word is used 18 times in 60 seconds! This one scene would convince you to watch the whole movie, who doesn’t love Steve Martin?! He was apparently convinced to join the production after favoring two scenes he had read from the script: The F- word tirade and the seat adjustment scene in the car. Barry Keoghan on playing Dominic in ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’. I thought he was fantastic. It’s hard to play both funny and sad at the same time, and he achieves both every moment he’s on screen. I read an interview with him where he talked about how much he pulls from animals and particularly wolves, and that really unlocked for me why I find him so fascinating to watch. Happy Halloween week all! So I haven’t seen the film ‘It’ with #BillSkarsgard and to be honest I’m not running to see it either! The original freaked me out so it’s not on my to-do list! 😅 I’m also not too familiar with this actor Bill Skarsgard but this is one hell of an audition.. it’s quite a short one but look how skilled he is, he most definitely brought the character Pennywise to life. He expresses more with just a bit from the eyes than some people can do in a full facial expression. 🙌🏼 I’d imagine there weren’t too many auditions for the role after this one, and I wonder how it affected him during the process and after the process of becoming this character?! The incredible @mrericlange has released his audition tape to celebrate the release of #EscapeAtDannemora on @netflix. “ I couldn’t get hooked in to Lyle, just wasn’t working, felt like a fraud… and then I bought a wig and a pair of fake teeth and everything just came together” -Eric Lange. I had pleasure of working with Eric on a short film many years ago and he was incredible. Eric has that talent of fully inhabiting his roles. He’s phenomenal, every trace of him disappears. Many Casting Directors have agreed that they start watching auditions as soon they start coming in. From those, they start selecting their callback options IMMEDIATELY. By the time the self tape deadline approaches, it is highly likely that casting has already secured enough callback options to move to the next round. Casting directors also at times #hollywood #casting #actors #hollywood purposely send out more self tape auditions than they need knowing they can simply review the submissions until they get what they need. Don’t let your self tape go unwatched! Being asked to submit a self tape is not a guarantee that the casting directors office will see you if you wait until the latest moment to submit!!! Seems fitting to re-post this audition tape this Wednesday morning! It is probably one of the best audition tapes I’ve seen, it’s so close to the real performance that it feels more like a rehearsal session than an audition. Actors this is the level of commitment to a performance for a role. Bravo to her for being so clearly invested and passionate I love that she’s not hung up on the ‘perfect performance’ and allows herself to be carried away by the energy of the moment at times. What a powerful performer The directors aka The Daniels actually rewrote Jobu after this audition. Apparently they said on Twitter that they ran the scene a few times and every time something “new and magical and unexpected” came out & they even edited together their favorite bits and added music once they got home. So a lot of what ended up in the film and how they wrote Jobu/Joy was because of Stephanie, which is super cool. She really deserved the Supporting Actress nod at the Oscar’s.
